Nikka’s founder Masataka Taketsuru chose a valley in the Miyagi prefecture as the site for his second distillery, aiming to make a complete contrast between the two distilleries, Yoichi and Miyagikyo, with different natural environments and production methods. Miyagikyo Single Malt is an expression designed to showcase Miyagikyo malts, which are made from light peated and non-peated malted barley, distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam and are described as elegant and fruity. On the nose: notes of malted barley, honey, tropical fruit, liquorice and light peat. On the palate: malt, cinnamon, ginger, chocolate and coconut. The finish is long and soft, with hints of citrus, nuts, spices and apple.An excellent product that showcases the elegant style of Miyagikyo malts.
